Scuba Diving Open Water Lessons and Certifications, Dallas, TX

In case you were wondering, all scuba diving training begins with Open Water Diver. After finishing this course, you will be certified to explore a whole new world under water!

Your training starts with eLearning.  It is self-paced and you should plan on 12 to 15 hours of study.  After that, you receive 3 nights or a weekend practicing skills in our training pool in our scuba shop in Carrollton, TX.  The following weekend, you will take your first open water training dives at a scuba park in Terrell, TX.

We have our own training pool.  One of the things that sets us apart from most other dive shops in the area is we start your training right in our own pool.  We have a full line of high-quality dive gear making sure your experience is top-notch.  The following weekend, we go to The Scuba Ranch in Terrell, TX to complete your open water dives for certification. 

Your Open Water Certfication course is taught by professional instructors who care for your safety and love to teach our students scuba diving.  We keep our instruction to small groups with a maximum of 6 people. We offer more personal attention, more fun, and a real quality dive experience and education. What you need to know before you register online:

The entire course consists of three parts:
1) 12 to 15 hours of self-study online.
2) Confined water sessions in our pool, for which we offer three regular schedules:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Monday from 6pm-10pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday, Tuesday from 6pm-10pm
  • Saturday & Sunday from 8am-5pm

3) one full weekend for open water dives in Terrell, TX

You will need to come to our shop as soon as possible to purchase your personal gear for class (mask, fins, snorkel and boots), complete your Learning Agreement and Medical Questionnaire before your spot is secured in the class.

The Open Water Diver Course with International Scuba in Dallas, TX

If you've always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wonderous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. The Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous lifestyle of diving.

We offer Small Class Sizes and Certification in 3 Main Phases that usually happen over two weeks:

Your Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases and we keep class sizes to a maximum of 6 students:

  • Online Self-Study: 12 to 15 hours of eLearning to understand basic principles of scuba diving and what you have to look forward to.  Must be completed before your confined water dives.
  • Confined Water Dives:   You will learn and demonstrate basic scuba skills with our fun Instructors in our 85-degree pool. 
  • Open Water Checkout Dives: We create a fun, first-time diving event for you and your class at The Scuba Ranch in Terrell, TX, the weekend following your pool lessons.  Or, if you are headed right to vacation, you can do your checkout dives in the big blue ocean!  We can help find you a reputable dive shop if you need.  Let us know how we can make your educational experience the best for you!

The only prerequisites to enroll in the Open Water Diver Course or Junior Open Water Course is to be 10 Years or Older, have the ability to swim 200 yards and tread water for 10 minutes.  


The Total Investment to Get Open Water Certified:

We understand that you might prefer to register online, however, it is in your best interest if you call us at 972-416-8400 or come to the shop to get started.  There are a lot of details to getting certified and we want to make sure you choose the best way for you.  

We have three course options: Basic, Deluxe, and Premium:


$500 for the complete certification. This price includes the PADI eLearning, Pool Sessions, and Lake Sessions.*


$654 covers the basic course and includes Peak Performance Buoyancy (fine tunes your weighting and teaches you proper weight placement, as well as how your lungs and gear configuration contribute to your buoyancy).*


$839 covers everything in the basic and deluxe packages plus includes Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox which gives you longer allowable bottom times and can reduce your overall nitrogen build-up when diving multiple dives in a day or multiple days in a row), Project AWARE (teaches you about the aquatic environment and how you as a diver impact it, and how to make that impact positive, and more (be sure to ask our retail staff about additional perks with the premium course package). *

**Students must have their own Scuba rated snorkeling gear, if purchased through International Scuba then rental gear for the course is free. Rental gear add-on is $150

Let's Talk About The Scuba Gear You Use

You learn to use basic scuba gear including a dive computer and standard accessories.  With today's technology, diving is easier than ever.

You are REQUIRED to have dive quality equipment in good working condition that fits properly.

If you arrive for class with poor-fitting gear or gear that is NOT dive quality, you will not be permitted in class.  Your best bet is to come into our shop at least two weeks in advance and our Dive Staff will work with you to select your personal equipment that ensures your comfort throughout the course. 

All of our personal gear is at Minimum Advertised Price so you will not be able to purchase for less online.  And, when you purchase your gear, you will be given a voucher for your weekend gear rental a value of $150.  

Our group confined water class schedule options:

  • 3 Monday/Wednesday Nights:   Monday, Wednesday, Monday Nights from 6:00 to 10:00 pm
  • 3 Tuesday/Thursday Nights:  Tuesday, Thursday, Tuesday Nights from 6:00 to 10:00 pm
  • Weekend: A Saturday and Sunday Weekend from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm both days

In all three cases, you will go the following weekend to Terrell, TX for your checkout dives from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday.


Private and Concierge Options are available:

Everyone is busy and sometimes schedules just don't work with our regular class schedules.  We offer private pool instruction at an additional investment of $200 per person.  This is an option if you are in a rush to get certified or want to schedule a private class for you and/or your entire family.  

Concierge Service is where we come to you.  We bring the mask, snorkel, boots, and fins to your home and offer lessons in your pool with a private Instructor.  Call 972.416.8400 for unique options and pricing to fit your needs.
