International Scuba’s PADI Open Water Diver Course

At International Scuba, we have all our students spend 10-14 hours in the pool for confined water training, where you will master all the skills before heading to the open water environment.

The majority of our open water training takes place at The Scuba Ranch. Our maximum instructor-to-student ratio is six students to one instructor and typically one divemaster. When visibility is not ideal, we will limit ratios further to ensure safety and comfort for our students.

All group courses also include the PADI AWARE specialty, where you will learn about the underwater environment and how you as a human and as a diver impact it, and how to ensure it is a positive impact!

While children as young as 10 can take the PADI Open Water Diver certification, for the comfort and safety of children under 15 years of age, we have special requirements, as listed below:

  • Only allowed in the evening scheduled pool sessions, which are conducted in four hour sessions over three evenings, or we can schedule fully private courses, which will still be conducted in four hour sessions; however, they can be scheduled earlier than our 6:00 p.m. group sessions.
  • To ensure proper supervision at the lake, we reduce the ratios to no more than two minors to one instructor, and no other students.
  • International Scuba and The Scuba Ranch have a strict policy that all minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the open water training site. There are no exceptions.
  • Since this is a semi-private course, booking cannot be made online, only over the phone or in person at one of our two locations.

As a PADI Open Water Diver, you will hold a certification that is recognized worldwide and never expires, though if you go several months or longer without diving, it is recommended you take a refresher course (ReActivate) to ensure you still have mastery of the skills needed to dive safely.

$675 for the complete certification. This price includes the PADI eLearning, Pool Sessions, and Lake Sessions. Project AWARE (teaches you about the aquatic environment and how you, as a diver, impact it, and how to make that impact positive).*

Deluxe:

$824 covers the basic course and includes Peak Performance Buoyancy (fine-tunes your weighting and teaches you proper weight placement, as well as how your lungs and gear configuration contribute to your buoyancy).*

Premium:

$999 covers everything in the basic and deluxe packages, plus includes Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox, which gives you longer allowable bottom times and can reduce your overall nitrogen build-up when diving multiple dives in a day or multiple days in a row), and more (be sure to ask our retail staff about additional perks with the premium course package). *

*Students must have their own Scuba rated snorkeling gear. If purchased through International Scuba, then rental gear for the course is free. Rental gear add-on is $150

Student Agreement: By registering for the Open Water Diver Course, you indicate that you have read and agree to the course policies, terms and conditions

Important Medical Form

All student divers are required to complete the Diver Medical Form. Read the form carefully and answer questions honestly. If you can answer “Yes” to questions 3, 5, or 10, OR any question on page 2, then you are required to obtain a physician’s release on this form, without restrictions, before participating in Step 2 – Pool Training.

Your Essential Personal Gear

For the best fit and maximum comfort, you will dive with your own essential personal gear including mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves during the course. You’ll want to stop by during regular business hours to get professionally outfitted with your new essential personal gear before your equipment orientation session. When purchased from one of our two locations, we will guarantee the fit by allowing you to exchange ill-fitting or uncomfortable gear during your pool training (before going into the open water environment)

*FREE Scuba Gear Rental

When you purchase your essential personal dive gear (Mask, Snorkel, Fins, Boots, and Gloves) at International Scuba you will receive FREE rental of scuba gear, including regulator, BCD, and dive computer during your course – an additional $150 value. We provide 7mm semi-dry wetsuits during winter months (November-March).

The Scuba Equipment You’ll Use

You will use our fleet of modern Aqua Lung and Scubapro diving equipment during your pool training and open water dives. This includes regulator, alternate air source, buoyancy control device, dive computer, weights, and air tank. Don’t worry if you don’t know about all of these right now. You’ll learn all about them during your course.

Referral Option

It’s best to complete your training locally with us to maximize your vacation dives, but if you’re close to your vacation departure or you need to complete your certification during the winter months, then a referral may be for you. You complete Step 1 – eLearning and Step 2 – Pool Training with International Scuba, then complete Step 3 – Open Water Dives at your vacation destination. Ask us if this option is right for you.

Private Training Option

Please stop by or call us if you would like us to custom tailor a private course. Pricing varies depending on your customized options.
